Teachers will be provided a detailed analysis of each grade level Math scores on the current year’s K-2 ITBS exam and 3-5 TAKS state assessment exam to make recommendations to improve student achievement.
1. Administration and Math CILT (Campus Instructional Leadership Team) will pass out a copy of the AEIS and Multi-Year reports to all participants. 2. Teachers will be asked to sit together with their respective grade level to review the data as well as the commended percentages in Math for all subgroups. 3. Facilitator/Principal and Math CILT would review the AEIS and Multi-Year Report with all staff to identify the campus trends and gaps in Math for the past two years. 4.Grade level chairs will each share their team’s strengths and weaknesses for each subgroup to identify recommendations for student improvement.

Principal will address the activities, person(s) responsible, timeline, resources, and formative evaluation criteria with all staff in order to achieve the campus goal in Math by 2011. 5. Principal will share with the staff that the campus is seeking to hire a bilingual Math specialist FTE to tutor and work with the 3rd-5th grade LEP and at-risk students twice a week during the school day.

Principal and Math CILT will present the upcoming math workshop initiative, goals, and objectives for the upcoming school year to assist teachers and students to achieve campus goals.

1. Principal and Math CILT will show the PowerPoint presentation to share the Math workshop initiative to staff that will be implemented in the upcoming school year in grades K-5. 2. Math CILT will present the research-based practices that will be addressed in the Math workshop. 3. Principal will review the proposed Math workshop format for grades K-5. 4. Principal and Math CILT will display the two teacher supplemental resources that will be used in the Math workshop: Elementary and Middle School Mathematics: Teaching Developmentally, 7/e and Teaching Student Centered Mathematics: Grades 3-5 by John Van de Walle. 5. K-5 teachers will share suggestions and comments on the proposed Math workshop format and resources to better improve instruction.

Everyday Counts Calendar Math helps all students especially LEP, at-risk, and special education students needing help reinforcing math vocabulary language and lessons to improve comprehension of math concepts and skills.
Everyday Count Calendar math helps all students understand critical math concepts with this results-proven calendar math kit.
1. Math CILT will share the benefits of all grade levels using Everyday Counts Calendar math to reinforce math vocabulary and comprehension of math skills. 2. Math CILT will present the calendar math format and materials that will be used daily for all grades K-5. 3. K-2 will share with the upper grades how calendar math has helped various subgroups of students in the lower grades improve mathematically in basic skills and computations. 4. Participants will be provided a kit to explore with their respective grade levels for feedback and scaffolding with the entire group.

Research-Based Best Practices - District Math Specialist
District math specialists will work with staff to incorporate meaningful and engaging activities to enhance student achievement in Math
District Math specialist will share best practices and assist teachers to develop and model effective lessons to provide timely feedback for learning purposes.
1. Principal will introduce the district math specialist that will share district trends and best practices in Math that will improve student learning. 2. Math specialist will share websites and activities that will benefit the staff based upon the campus needs in Math for the LEP and at-risk student population. 3. Math specialist will present effective problem-solving strategies and manipulatives to increase student mastery in higher-order thinking skills. 4. Math specialist will provide teachers with identified remediation and intervention strategies that will assist with small group instruction. 5. Teachers will be able to explore and try some of the research-based lesson activities. 6. Each grade level will share how one of the research-based lesson activities will help their students improve in Mathematical concepts.

Create Math Grade-level lesson plans to assist LEP and Special Education students
Each grade level will create Math lesson plans to assist LEP and Special Education students to improve comprehension of math concepts and skills.
K-5 grade levels will create math lesson plans to assist the LEP and Special Education populations.
1. Principal will ask teachers to brainstorm math lesson plan activities that they will use to help the LEP and special education student populations. 2. Teachers will plan at least three lesson plan activities with their respective grade levels to address gaps in Math according to the CIP. 3. Teachers will share one of their lessons plan activities with the entire group for reflection of today’s session.

Teachers will reflect on their experience of the staff development session and provide their feedback for evaluation purposes.
1. Principal will inform staff of additional professional development sessions that the staff might be able to attend which will be provided in e-mail. 2. Pass out the 3 keys to Learning staff development evaluation for feedback. (1-What did they learn from today’s professional development session. 2-What do they still have concerns about? 3-How will they use the information they learned with their student’s?) 3. Teachers will submit completed staff development-evaluations anonymously upon exiting the library. 4. Instructional leaders will review and provide feedback in the weekly vertical team planning meetings. 5. Instructional leaders will also observe the math workshop during walk-throughs and observations in which feedback will be provided.

Administration and Math CILT (Campus Instructional Leadership Team) will monitor, evaluate, and provide feedback to teachers regarding the implementation of the research-based Math workshop program provided by John Van De Valle, which will be ongoing from Aug. 2010-June 2011. Teachers will meet weekly in their respective grade level and vertical team meetings to incorporate meaningful and engaging activities to enhance student achievement in Mathematic instruction. Math specialist will meet with the 3rd through 5th grade teams to discuss new interventions and resources for the identified LEP and students at-risk for failure progress toward campus math objectives weekly throughout the school year. As the principal, I would meet with all grade levels to provide feedback on teacher observations and walk-throughs as well as address teacher’s concerns of the Math workshop. I would also provide the staff with a calendar of the monthly planning meetings that would be scheduled to review the Math data regarding six-week tests, benchmarks, and professional development opportunities to assist our teachers and students with meeting the campus goal.
